Privacy policy

What we don't collect

Every figure you enter — home price, deposit, interest rate, income, property tax, insurance — is processed by JavaScript running on your own device. Those numbers are never transmitted to our servers, never written to a database, and never logged. We could not produce your calculator inputs if someone asked us to, because we never receive them.

There is no account system, no newsletter signup, no "email me my results" step, and no contact form attached to the calculators. We don't sell, rent, or share personal information with lenders or brokers — this site is deliberately not built on that business model, and our about page explains why.

What is stored on your device

The site stores one small preference in your browser's local storage: your light or dark theme choice, so the page doesn't flash the wrong theme when you return. It stays on your device, is readable only by this site, and is never sent anywhere. Clearing your browser data removes it.

Advertising

This site is funded by display advertising, which is what keeps every calculator free with no account required. We use Google AdSense.

Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure advertising based on your visits to this and other websites, which can include personalised advertising. Google's use of advertising cookies is governed by its own policies rather than ours, and we do not receive the personal data those cookies handle.

You can control this directly. Google's Ads Settings let you turn off personalised advertising across Google's network, and Google's partner-sites page explains what is collected when you use a site carrying its advertising. Your browser settings can also block or delete cookies generally.

Advertisements are served by a third-party network and are not endorsements. An advert for a lender or a financial product does not mean we recommend it — see our editorial policy and disclaimer.

Analytics

We use privacy-friendly, cookieless web analytics to understand aggregate traffic — how many people visit, which pages get read, roughly which country visitors are in, and which sites link to us. It tells us that a guide is being read; it does not tell us who read it.

This data is aggregate, is not linked to anything you type into a calculator, is not used to build a profile of you, and is not sold.

Server logs

As with essentially every website, our hosting provider records standard technical request information — IP address, browser type, page requested, timestamp — as a normal part of serving pages and protecting against abuse. This is ordinary infrastructure logging, retained for a limited period by the host, and it isn't combined with anything else or used to identify individuals.

Links to other sites

We link out to external sources — central banks, statistical agencies, government housing bodies — so you can verify our figures. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which we don't control and aren't responsible for.

Children

This site is intended for adults researching mortgages and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your rights

Privacy laws in several regions — including the UK and EU under the GDPR, and US states such as California — give you rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of personal data held about you, and to opt out of its sale or of targeted advertising.

In our case the practical answer is unusually simple: we hold no personal data about you. There are no accounts and no stored inputs, so there is no file to access, correct, or delete. We do not sell personal information because we do not collect it.

Where advertising cookies are concerned, that data sits with Google rather than with us, so the effective controls are the Google Ads Settings link above and your own browser settings. Changes to this policy

If our practices change — a different analytics provider, or an additional advertising partner — we'll update this page and the date at the top. Material changes will be described here rather than made quietly.
